A pot of black tea and a minted cucumber sandwich, served by a smiling 70-year-old waitress wouldn’t be abnormal in this very particular 1950‘s lunchroom.

Think: a pot of black tea; a minted cucumber sandwich; a Royal family portrait; a smiling 70-year-old waitress. None of these would be abnormal in this very quaint and particular 1950‘s workshop lunchroom, hidden behind a beautiful fire-station style roller door in Carlton North.

The small English-themed dining space overlooks a busy Nicholson St tram-stop, and through glass-paneled doors on the inside, a fully functioning and active short-run workshop.

Focus is on exhibiting local suppliers - brewing Carlton’s Seven Seeds coffee, and plating breads, pastries and meats from local bakers and butchers. Spaces like this make for the most perfect awkward first-dates.
